Prime Minister Narendra Modi has bombed Article 370 and 35A into the dustbin of history thereby paving way for the complete integration of Kashmir into the rest of Bharatavarsha. But this is only a sacred Dharma that has just begun. It will reach its completion and fruition when Kashmir will once again become resplendent as one of the world’s greatest seats of ancient learning and philosophy. That is a civilisational task which needs the kind of political strength and support that Narendra Modi has displayed over the last five years.
But we’re on a different point here. Rebuilding the Sri Rama Mandira at Ayodhya.
A very wise Greek philosopher held that studying even the most trivial of things in great depth can be very illuminating. The history of the industrialised, post-modern, post-whatever world shows that it’s been a steep descent into such murky depths of the trivial that even the most banal of things sounds profound. Here’s an example from the Times of India, the prime purveyor of such pettifogging (in honour of “farrago” Shashi Tharoor).
This also counts for what’s known as public discourse. But let’s leave the weighty matters of washing the filthy buttocks of celebrity babies to the staff at Times of India and focus on the business at hand.
With due respect to the Greek philosopher, I will dare add the following to his timeless dictum: studying desperation in some depth can also be equally illuminating.
Remember this tweet from Jan 2018?
Yes. Yes. Like you, even I rubbed my eyes in disbelief at this tweet. And opened random pages of Kathopanishad, Alain De Botton’s Consolations of Philosophy, D V Gundappa’s Jivanadharma Yoga, Dr. B R Ambedkar’s Thoughts on Pakistan, Sri Aurobindo’s India’s Rebirth and Dr. S L Bhyrappa’s Aavarana. This kind of surrealism in the space of just one tweet sends one to seek soulful succour from the Masters. But it was finally this line from Thoreau that consoled me: The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation. Insert “Indian National Congress” in Thoreau’s quote as appropriate.
The Congress party talking about Hindus, Hindu temples, practices, beliefs, traditions…in fact, the Congress party talking anything at all about Hinduism is akin to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan celebrating Sri Rama Navami in the mosques dotting the geography of this torrid excuse for a nation. When we scratch our collective memory as a nation, we can’t recall when the Congress party last spoke about the native Dharma of this sacred land in sympathetic and positive light in the last seventy years.
At the height of his power, the Nawab of All-Encompassing Intellectual Darkness, Jawaharlal Nehru proclaimed that the “real danger to India is Hindu right-wing communalism.” Down to the fourth generation, Nawab Rahul Gandhi the direct inheritor of said darkness took a courageous step further and declared in 2010 to a foreign ambassador that Hindu extremism was a greater threat to India than Islamic terror groups like the LeT.
While it’s unfair on our part to expect Chhote Nawab Rahul Gandhi to speak sense on any topic, the fact is that even in 2010, his party, the Indian National Congress, had wholly and irreversibly been transformed into a pro-Muslim-Christian and anti-Hindu party. Perhaps feeling secure that its power was eternal, it dangerously floated and propagated the non-existent “Hindu terror” bogeyman, perhaps the final nail in the coffin of its ensuing political extinction. Obviously, there are countless examples of this transformational journey of the party, which today, is nothing more a shadow-clone of say the AIMM or the Muslim League (in Kerala) but one can cite some representatives ones.
Because Hindus fear the Muslims, they have fallen on the path of secularism. Each time they were conquered by Muslim soldiers, they have learnt to sink and bend like powerless blades of grass. This can be seen several times in our history.
— Syed Shahbuddin: Sunday, 20 March 1983. Paraphrased.
This same Syed Shahbuddin, in an astonishing space of just ten years, became one of the most powerful and regressive voices on the Muslim side during the Ayodhya debate in the 1990s. Together with the Shahi Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid and similar fundamentalist Imams and Mullahs, these worthies bent an already-craven Congress party to their will and whim. Indeed, the phrase “Muslim veto” was used by our Congress-hired Lutyens activists, political intellectuals, academic mercenaries, and think-tank malcontents even as late as 2014. And so, no matter how hard it tries today, this is one virtue-turned-taint the Congress can never wash off. Perhaps nobody read it the riot act that Shakespeare so wonderfully authored in the character of Lady Macbeth.
Perhaps the Congress realised the true extent of this taint during last year’s Gujarat elections where even for tokenism, it didn’t overtly court the Muslim vote bank. Instead, it went on an overdrive of brazenly courting the Hindu vote bank — Chhote Nawab Rahul Gandhi’s clueless temple runs and his stunt of “janeu-dhari Brahman Hindu,” all of which fooled none. This is fully consonant with the party’s perfection of hypocrisy. It is the same Congress which for seventy years wreaked havoc on the Hindu society by propagating the phoney theory of “janeu-dhari Brahmans oppressing Dalits.” And here’s the newly-minted “janeu-dhari Brahman,” Nawab Rahul Gandhi, sharing the stage with society-wreckers made up of the disgusting HAJ (Hardik, Alpesh, and Jignesh) triumvirate. What’s missing even in this triumvirate is a Muslim face.
Obviously, the Pavlovian response was predictable and swift elsewhere in its ranks.
A couple of rallies by the powerhouse Hindu leader and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Karnataka is all it took to severely rattle Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Like his clueless “young” boss, this incurable Muslim-vote bank-addict rediscovered his Hindu credentials almost overnight. Like he must. Because Karnataka is the final wall whose shattering by the BJP will usher in the political annihilation of what’s even left of the Congress party.
Meanwhile, “cattle feed” (that’s the original meaning of the Latin word, “Farrago”), “bedroom eyes” Shashi Tharoor was equally quick in penning a book possibly explaining why he is also a “believing” Hindu. No, please don’t waste your hard earned ₹ 699 to buy and read it.
The unarguable fact is that today the Congress party has nothing that it can call as its own vote bank and has been reduced to playing the politics of desperation. Only the most foolhardy or the utterly desperate can characterise an (well-deserved) electoral defeat as a “moral victory.”
Bizarrely, this “moral victory” has manifested itself in many forms. For all purposes, the Congress seems to have given up fighting its battles on its own. On the one hand, it has become content to allow national disgraces like the selfsame HAJ combine to dictate terms to it. On the other, it has outsourced its electoral and other battles to the sprawling ecosystem of Lutyens, Lutyens-clones and other beneficiaries that Nehru and other dynasts have created and nurtured over the decades.
The Congress realises that apart from Karnataka, which goes to polls a few months from now, if the Supreme Court upholds the verdict of the Allahabad High Court in the Rama Janmabhoomi case, it will deal it the deathblow in the 2019 national elections. It knows full well that it is confronted with a BJP, which led by Amit Shah, has bagged a whopping nineteen states and still looking vigorous, aggressive, and unstoppable.
Compounding this worry is its living nightmare called Yogi Adityanath who continues to crackdown on all manner of Jihadism and not giving a damn to the perpetually-fragile Muslim sentiments. It must be said that in Yogi Adityanath, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh has found a true, worthy, and unapologetic successor.
Like its Most Favoured Ally, the Muslim vote bank, the Congress party knows the full implications of what will ensue if the Sri Rama Mandir becomes a living reality.
Among others, this is one of the main reasons a sense of history becomes so paramount. The efforts in the 1990s to rebuild the Sri Rama Mandir at Ayodhya can’t merely be characterised as a “movement.” It was the singular amalgamation of the combined forces of Sankalpa, Bhakti, Shraddha, Kshatra, and Tyaga. It was an entire civilisation and culture offering Gangabhishekam to itself. Mere words can’t explain it. Indeed, there are multiple volumes giving an honest account of this epochal episode waiting to be written. It was also one of the first tasks that the current government should have commissioned but that’s a topic for another day.
It is because the Congress-led combine of Muslim-vote bank-addicts realised these implications that it decided that an infinite stalling of the Sri Rama Mandir was the best way to diffuse the passion. And they did succeed in this vile project for a quarter of a century. It is also this mortal fear that led the Congress party to unleash the likes of Kapil Sibal and company to display goon-like behaviour in the Supreme Court followed by the damp squib called the “revolt” of the four Supreme Court judges last week. Let’s make no mistake: the one-point agenda in both these instances is to somehow delay the Ramajanmabhoomi verdict until Chief Justice Dipak Mishra retires in October 2018.
Indeed, a rebuilding of the Sri Rama Mandir will once again reawaken the twenty-five-year-long lull of Hindu civilisational slumber that characterised the aftermath of 1992. With the continuing irrelevance of the Muslim vote bank, the Congress party and its clones have lost their only bargaining chip. As history has shown us, the Muslim vote bank has always meant pandering to the worst of their clergy.
Needless, a rebuilding of the Sri Rama Mandir in Ayodhya will pave way for the smooth rebuilding of an even grander Viswanath Mandir in Kashi, and the rightful restoration of the endearing Lord of Govardhana in Mathura.
But for the definitive civilisational reawakening in 1992, Bharatavarsha would still be chained to the shackles fastened upon her soul by the successive inheritors of the worst of the combined imperialisms of the Mughals, the British, and the traitorous brood of the illegitimate Desi progeny of Karl Marx.
